Former Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann was a name touted with the upcoming vacancy at Anfield due to the quick passing game that he implements and his footballing similarity to Jurgen Klopp.

However, despite other reports claiming he may have been heading back to Munich to replace Thomas Tuchel next season, the reliable Christian Falk has reported this morning via his X account, that the 36-year-old Nagelsmann will be extending his current contract with the German National team until 2026, thus ruling him out of the running to take over at Liverpool

Extending until 2026 puts a definite stamp of rejection on any domestic club wanting to acquire his services for at least the next season, which will leave many Reds fans disappointed.

Now that Bayern seem to be back in the search for a new figurehead to take the helm, it adds another European heavyweight to the mix of the likes of  Liverpool and Barcelona in terms of teams who are still looking for a new manager. Links between the Bavarian club and Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi seem to have gained traction.

Bayern’s interest in De Zerbi possibly takes yet another name out of the shrinking hat for Liverpool, with former Reds favourite, Xabi Alonso announcing last month that he would be staying at German Champions Bayer Leverkusen next season.

All of the stars seem to be aligning perfectly to allow Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim to take over once Klopp has left his post, with many Reds having him as their current favourite for the job due to his impressive high tempo football, similar to Klopp’s ‘heavy-metal football’ and his achievement of winning Sporting’s first league title in 19 years, as well as this season’s potential domestic double.

However, one piece of scrutiny that has come for many of the managers that Liverpool have been linked with is their vast inexperience, signalling a real disparity in the European market for vastly experienced managers who would be open to the move while being well capable of taking the step up to the Anfield hottest.
