What Liverpool’s Destruction Of Tottenham Really Taught Us…

By Aiden Gharibian

Liverpool have just trounced Tottenham Hotspur 4–0 in the second leg of their Carabao Cup tie, completing the two-legged affair in dominant fashion. Goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Virgil van Dijk sealed the victory for Liverpool, overturning Tottenham Hotspur’s 1–0 advantage from the first leg. Liverpool are on their way to Wembley, where they have the opportunity to make their Carabao Cup dreams come true for the second year in a row. Liverpool were heavy favourites entering this fixture tonight, and after their performance, it’s clear to see why. Liverpool’s underlying statistics — 26 shots, 10 on target, 64% possession, and 3.72 xG — demonstrate that this dominant performance was anything but a fluke. From this showing, it’s safe to say head coach Arne Slot will be pleased with his side’s performance. However, one key takeaway from tonight’s match could prove crucial for the remainder of Liverpool’s season.

Liverpool legend John Arne Riise on Arne Slot, Champions League hopes & more | WhoScored Exclusive

This key takeaway was not only highlighted by tonight’s performance, but it also served as a prime example of how Liverpool’s squad depth can propel them to success this season. With differing opinions over Liverpool’s net spend last summer and January, it remains an ongoing debate whether Liverpool should have signed more players with only Federico Chiesa entering the door. The truth is Arne Slot has made the absolute most of his squad depth, as he was able to rest crucial players such as Alisson Becker, Luis Diaz, and Alexis Mac Allister in today’s fixture while putting together an unbelievable starting XI. Most of Liverpool’s bench options would likely start for Tottenham, as proved by a lively cameo from Diogo Jota and an assist by Alexis Mac Allister.

As long as the majority of Liverpool players can stay fit for the rest of the season, their dreams of obtaining major silverware can stay alive. The quality of this squad is undeniable, as even a brilliant performance from Liverpool’s star man, Mohamed Salah, was nearly overshadowed by standout displays from the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Conor Bradley. The common criticism of Liverpool’s over-reliance on Mohamed Salah is quickly being put to bed, with brilliant defensive displays, midfield masterclasses, and various forwards stepping up for the Reds. With standout performances from Curtis Jones and Conor Bradley, Liverpool barely felt the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alexis Mac Allister today.

This truly was a demolition job of the highest proportions, and The Reds booked their place in another Wembley final in some style!

Newcastle United will provide a more than worthy advisory in the March final but for Slot’s side it’s hard to dismiss the fact that this presents a huge opportunity to put some early silverware in the cabinet.

“Because Of His Presence.” – Former Man Utd Man Picks Liverpool ‘Leader’ In Dream Duo

By Priya Kaur

In a recent interview with WhoScored, former Manchester United and Netherlands goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar, the Dutchman shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s Champions League prospects as well as touching upon his preferences for his ideal backline.

When asked about which current centre-backs he would prefer in front of him, Van der Sar did not hesitate to mention our formidable skipper Virgil van Dijk stating “I think Virgil could be nice because of his presence and his quality as a leader, and I would also need an Italian one.”

Virgil’s dominance in aerial duels, composure on the ball, and ability to marshal a defence, make him a natural choice for any goalkeeper and his Italian reference reflects his appreciation for defensive discipline and tactical awareness.

Regarding his prediction for the Champions League winner this season, the former Red Devil surprisingly backed Liverpool!

“Liverpool, but it was difficult to say that. There are a lot of Dutch people there, the manager is doing well and they have fantastic fans.”

Now, there is no better feeling than immersing yourself on a European night under the L4 lights, and with the Champions League competition heating up, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can live up to Van de Sar’s expectations.

While the future remains unpredictable, one thing is for certain, and that is the respect the club demands, even from those who once played for its rivals.

Liverpool v Tottenham: Preview & Predicted XI

By Ben Rowley

Liverpool will look to overturn their controversial first-leg defeat to Tottenham when they welcome Spurs to Anfield for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.

The Reds’ 24-match unbeaten run came to an end in January, with Lucas Bergvall’s 86th-minute winner handing Ange Postecoglou’s side a 1-0 advantage.

The goal came moments after referee Stuart Attwell decided not to show a second yellow to the 18-year-old following a reckless challenge on Kostas Tsimikas, leaving Liverpool furious with the decision.

However, the Carabao Cup holders are in fine form, securing a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday – ending the Cherries’ 11-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

“BOBBY FIRMINO: BEST IN THE WORLD” DOCUMENTARY | EPISODE 1

Virgil van Dijk spoke ahead of the second-leg fixture this Thursday: “Now we have a couple of days off and we focus fully on turning the tie around against Spurs at home.

“It will be difficult but I am looking forward to it.”

With Liverpool in excellent shape, Slot is expected to field a full-strength XI, especially with a trip to Championship bottom side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Diogo Jota could return to the starting lineup after fully recovering from his latest injury. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to be rested after picking up a minor knock, while Joe Gomez remains sidelined with a hamstring issue.

Despite mounting pressure, Postecoglou will be buoyed by Spurs’ 2-0 victory over weekend opponents Brentford, which ended their seven-match winless run and lifted them to 14th place.

In a season-defining week for Ange, injury concerns persist. Radu Dragusin’s ACL tear last week adds to their growing list of absentees, which already includes Cristian Romero, James Maddison, and Dominic Solanke.

On a brighter note, forward Mathys Tel, Tottenham’s third signing of the window, is available to make his debut on Thursday after signing late on deadline day.

Anfield will be rocking on Thursday night, and for good reason – the Reds are unbeaten in their last nine home games in the competition.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah will be eager to add to his nine goal involvements in his last six appearances against Tottenham as Liverpool aims to book their place in the final.

Liverpool predicted XI

Alisson (GK) – Bradley, Konaté, Van Dijk, Robertson – Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister – Salah, Jota, Gakpo
