The Redmen TV…….an open letter

An open letter to the viewers and subscribers of Redmen TV regarding the break up of the Super League, ownership of Liverpool Football Club and the future of football…. We along with many other outlets have been covering the outrageous European Super League news this week. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support during this time. We’ve felt emboldened and invigorated by the togetherness of football fans around the world and we will continue to fight for what we believe is right. The shut down of the Super League is a battle which has been won but the fight for a football that we believe in has only just begun. We wholeheartedly stand for reforms in football. These reforms need to address a myriad of issues including the distribution of money down the whole football pyramid. Racism in football needs addressing and inequality in all its forms. There needs to be, in our opinion, fan representation on the board of every club in the land. Fairer ticket prices, greater consideration on kick off times and ease of access to tickets for young fans must be factored in. We also need to urgently address the new Champions League format, proposals for an expanded Club World Cup, and the knock on impact on our domestic cup competitions. Hopefully, and perhaps most importantly, we believe in exploring and pursuing something similar to the German 50+1 fan ownership rule. This list is by no means exhaustive and I’m sure there are countless things that are important to us all. With regards to the ownership of Liverpool FC, and the next steps, there will of course be a difference of opinion amongst the Liverpool fan base, but now is not the time to turn on each other. There is a collective feeling that football needs to change and this can be achieved if we all stand together. To that end we will be listening to, and taking our lead from the likes of Spirit of Shankly, Spion Kop 1906, Reclaim Our Game, The FSA and supporter collectives from across the pyramid. This week has shown us that when we move as one, we move with the power to change football, and the world, for the better. This isn’t over and we will use our voice and the platform that you have afforded us to achieve our collective goals. UNITY IS STRENGTH. Paul, Chris, Tom, Simon, Ben, Ross REDMEN TV YNWA

The Kop Chronicles

The Kop Chronicles is a series aiming to remember, inform and celebrate. The likes of Jamie Carragher, Bruce Grobbelaar, Alan Kennedy, Ian Callaghan, Paul Dalglish, Dominic Matteo, Dave Kirby, Peter Hooton, Jeff Goulding, Ian Byrne & John Machin all share their memories of players who shaped the landscape of LFC and the games which added to our renowned history throughout the footballing world.

Kenny Dalglish | The Kop Chronicles | Episode One

Kenny Dalglish is a Liverpool legend. Up there with the likes of John Houlding, Bill Shankly & Billy Liddell for his contributions to this club. In Episode One of The Kop Chronicles, we look at the career of the man who has spent near enough 44 years playing, managing and guiding Liverpool FC – creating the ‘Bastion of Invincibility’ throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s, that Bill Shankly sought after, all those years ago.

Steve Heighway | The Kop Chronicles | Episode Two

Steve Heighway is one of, if not the biggest unsung Heroes in Liverpool FC’s history. In Episode Two of The Kop Chronicles, we explore the life of a man who brought success on the pitch – by transforming in the winger position for Liverpool, and also off the pitch – by nurturing the likes of Gerrard, Owen, Fowler and Carragher, who furthered our success and added to the storied history that we know and love for Liverpool FC.

Ian Callaghan | The Kop Chronicles | Episode Three

Ian Callaghan is the embodiment of going from the Shankly Era to the pinnacle of football. In Episode Three of The Kop Chronicles, we look at a man who helped lay the foundation of the historic club we have today, and also reaped the rewards at our peak with his 857 appearances throughout the 60s and 70s.

Alan Kennedy | The Kop Chronicles | Episode Four

Alan Kennedy has given Liverpool 2 of their 6 European Cups – the most prestigious and notoriously elusive titles in club football.. In Episode Four of The Kop Chronicles we remember one of the most successful left-backs of all time, in one of the best defences and teams the world has ever seen.

Kevin Keegan | The Kop Chronicles | Episode Five

Kevin Keegan was Liverpool’s first world-renowned superstar, who’s persona could be argued was bigger than the club at the time. In Episode Five of The Kop Chronicles we take a look back at a player who gave 100% every time he stepped onto the pitch and could even be regarded as ahead of his time in terms of his athleticism.

Graeme Souness | The Kop Chronicles | Episode Six

Graeme Souness is arguably the best midfielder and captain that Liverpool FC have ever had, overseeing a prosperous period for the club. In Episode Six of The Kop Chronicles we recount the stories of a hard-man footballer with a cultured side to his game, controlling matches and imposing his will on the opposition to win everything there is on offer in club football and then came back to have a less than stellar time as manager in the early 90s.

Crystal Palace 0-1 Liverpool – Match Report & Ratings

Crystal Palace 0-1 Liverpool: Diogo Jota’s ninth-minute-goal was enough as the Reds survived with goalkeeper Viteslav Jaros passing his baptism of fire with distinction.

Liverpool made it nine wins from 10 under Arne Slot but it wasn’t always plane sailing as world-class goalkeeper Alisson pulled his hamstring with 15 minutes remaining and with Caoimhin Kelleher ill, Slot turned to Viteszlav Jaros for his debut with the home side ramping up the pressure.

Portuguese marksman Diogo Jota had given The Reds the lead which they never extended despite bossing the lion’s share of proceedings, forcing Jaros to make several interventions to secure the points late on.

The Redmen TV are proudly partnered with Dr. Emrah Cinik

It was nearly the slowest of starts for Slot’s side when Eddie Nketiah scored after 24 seconds but the linesman ruled him offside.

Kostas Tsimikas and Cody Gakpo, on their first league starts, combined before Jota, closed in with his anticipation coming to the fore, and finished with the outside of his right foot.

Liverpool’s No.20 had a golden opportunity to double the deficit when Ryan Gravenberch found him, but he missed the connection he was looking for before squandering another chance to put the game beyond doubt soon after.

Brazilin number one Alisson made a great save seconds before the half-time whistle from Ismalia Sarr and then claimed the loose ball.

However, with the Selhurst Park crowd sensing blood and the hosts up to the task, when Alisson unconventionally cleared the ball with the outside of his left boot, he went down in some distress.

This was Jaros’ moment. He flapped at a cross early on but held an effort from Eberechi Eze shortly after. He dealt with everything with extreme ease and even nearly assisted Jota late on.

Player Ratings

XI: Alisson Becker 8, Trent Alexander-Arnold 7, Ibrahima Konate 8, Virgil van Dijk 9, Kostas Tsimikas 7, Ryan Gravenberch 8, Alexis Mac Allister 7, Curtis Jones 7, Mohamed Salah 6, Diogo Jota 7, Cody Gakpo 7.

Subs: Dominik Szobszlai 7, Luis Diaz 7, Viteslav Jaros 8, Andy Robertson 6, Waturu Endo 7.

“Honing In On” – Paul Gorst On Liverpool Links To Rival With ‘Loads Of Boxes Ticked’

Liverpool extended their perfect record in the Champions League to two wins from two earlier this week, seeing off Bologna 2-0.

As usual, Arne Slot batted away a question on contract renewals for one of his key players, including club captain Virgil van Dijk. The 33-year-old has been in fine form so far this season, leading fans and pundits alike convinced that the club should seek to extend his stay.

One man believed to be on LFC’s radar as Van Dijk’s potential successor or future partner is Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Branthwaite making a shock move across Stanley Park after the Blues fended off summer interest from Manchester United in the 22-year-old.

On the latest episode of our Journo Insight show, we asked the Liverpool Echo’s LFC correspondent Paul Gorst for his thoughts on Branthwaite.

The Redmen TV are proudly partnered with Dr. Emrah Cinik

Paul said:

“This would be absolutely sensational, wouldn’t it? Blockbuster – and be a real talking point for months and years.

“If he wasn’t wearing the St Rupert’s Tower on his chest, I think this would be one that Liverpool would be absolutely honing in on, and it would be screaming out to them.

“For a Manchester United, or a Chelsea, or even say a Tottenham, it’d be theoretically easier for them to get Jarrad Branthwaite out of Goodison Park than it would be for Liverpool because they’re going to fight tooth and nail to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“The fans would – I’m sure – go into a meltdown if it happened, or even came close to happening. There are loads of boxes ticked on the player himself, it’s just the fact that his employers would be absolutely loth to allow Liverpool to do the deal.

“At the moment Liverpool looks like they’re okay defensively, but certainly next summer they will be assessing that centre-back area once again, and I’d imagine Branthwaite features highly on the data analysis, shall we say?

“It’s been an issue for Everton for a number of years hasn’t it, meeting that PSR deadline at the end of June.

“How much of that PSR is still an issue next summer? Will they be in the same boat where they have to sell a star?

“Branthwaite is the one that stands out if Everton do have to sell a big player next summer.”

REDMEN REACTS

As one of the most impressive performers in the Premier League last season, Jarrad Branthwaite should be high up on the list of centre-back targets for a host of top European clubs. His age, proven track record in English football, and crucially the fact that he is a left-sided centre-half make him a potential successor to Virgil van Dijk. His club allegiance is obviously the main sticking point, as Paul is at pains to point out. Liverpool have more than likely missed the boat on being able to really test Everton’s resolve with a large bid. Had they offered a significant fee during the Toffee’s summer flirtation with yet more PSR breaches, perhaps the board would have felt their arms being twisted uncomfortably towards accepting. Now that an agreement is in place for the Blues to be sold, their deep financial woes should be easing.

Liverpool U19s 2-1 Bologna FC 1909 U21s – Match Report & Barry Lewtas

Liverpool’s Under 19s were back in UEFA Youth League action as a pre-cursor to the senior side getting underway against Italian visitors Bologna and once again it was a hard-fought encounter as Barry Lewtas’ side were made to work for every square inch.

The Reds lined up with an attack-minded four-pronged frontline of Kieran Morrison, Trent Kone-Doherty, Ranel Young and summer arrival Rio Ngumoha as the hosts looked to build upon their opening day point out in Milan.

With the captain from that goalless draw Trey Nyoni on first-team duty, Amara Nallo took the armband in the heart of the defence alongside Wellity Lucky and usual central defensive operator Carter Pinnington asked to fill a void at left-back.

“BOBBY FIRMINO: BEST IN THE WORLD” DOCUMENTARY | EPISODE 1

Despite the visitors’ cautious approach, Ngumoha had the first meaningful effort of the contest as the teenager’s direct running style and fearless nature combined to see a curling, dipping effort, just clip the top of the bar and go wide to deny what would’ve been an audacious goal.

Lewtas’ side dominated much of the first half but were unable to make their possession and territory count, whilst Bologna were always a threat on the counter as their low block defence stood firm for the most part in front of an onlooking Sir Kenny Dalglish.

Reds’ goalkeeper Kornel Misciur was called into action late in the opening 45 and Nallo was forced to clear well from the first sustained spell of pressure from the Italian outfit.

Early in the second half the deadlock was broken as Liverpool capitalised on Bologna’s attempts to pass out from the back, hard-working frontman Young rewarded for his selfless efforts and tucking home to open the scoring.

However, just moments later it was 1-1 as Federico Tonin fired home after some neat build-up play around the area freed up the attacker, a frustrating goal to concede for Lewtas’ charges having taken the lead.

But, the hosts regained control of proceedings as Pinnington rose highest at the back post to head the ball back into a dangerous area where Nallo was waiting to tap home from close range and give his side the lead once again, a lead this time that they were able to hold onto despite a flurry of late attacks and the Italian goalkeeper joining the masses from two set pieces.

Liverpool academy boss Lewtas was thrilled with his side after the well-earned three points…

On the win: “We knew how hard it was going to be. We thought it was going to be like Milan, and we knew it would be tough. We did really well to win, we made some technical mistakes that weren’t really like us but overall I’m really pleased.”

Lewtas also had praise for the ‘selfless’ and ‘outstanding’ Ranel Young following his goal but the Reds’ boss was particularly pleased with the captain on the day Amara Nallo: “We spoke about that in the meeting, we have said to the defenders ‘Can you add a little bit more value to your game?’ Amara has got two in two, really pleased.”

On Rio Ngumoha: “I think today we managed to set up on that side well which gave him the opportunity to be one-on-one. He hit the crossbar, I thought he combined well as well. He’s not played a lot, he is only young. As the game went on he dug in but the first half is where he caught the eye and I’ve said before we need to be patient and I’m sure we’ll get there. It is tough, he’s giving away a lot of size, a lot of age.”

Liverpool 2-0 Bologna Match Report & Ratings

 By Brendan Doyle

Liverpool won their second Champions League tie of the season after a 2-0 home win against 13th-placed Serie A side Bologna with goals from Alexis MacAllister and Mohamed Salah.

The Reds got off to the first half receiving somewhat of a scare from the Italian visitors as Thijs Dalligna netted in front of the kop but the linesman raised his flag, although just two minutes later, Alexis MacAllister scored at the other end in the 11th minute after being on the right end of Mohammed Salah’s impeccable floated ball into the Bologna area.

In the 17th minute Darwin Nunez thought he had doubled Liverpool’s lead as he picked up a slick through ball from Trent Alexander Arnold and converted his effort past Lukasz Skorupski but once again for the second time in the first half the linesman put his flag up to disallow a goal.

“BOBBY FIRMINO: BEST IN THE WORLD” DOCUMENTARY | EPISODE 1

As the half went on Bologna gained a five minute spell of confidence towards Liverpool’s final third as Dan Ndoye’s deflected shot smashed the crossbar.

Stefan Posch couldn’t get the right connection from Riccardo Orsolini’s downward header received from a fantastically whipped-in free kick by Nikola Moro, another potential equaliser which was this time in close areas to Liverpool’s netting.

When Liverpool’s back line seemed to be out of shape, Bologna once again tried to seize the opportunity to capitalise on the situation as Dan Ndoye dispossessed Trent Alexander Arnold of the ball who then laid it off to Kacper Urbanski whose shot on goal forced Alisson to parry the ball around the post.

As Liverpool seemed to enter the first ten minutes of the second half composed and in control of possession, Bologna’s Riccardo Orsolini once again attempted a shot on goal but Alisson saved the powerfully hit shot away from the area.

Luis Diaz had the ball at his feet just on the edge of the area facing the kop and it looked as though the Colombian forward was about to strike but decided to carry the ball into the penalty area after drifting to a wider area but took a touch too many and lost possession.

Just when Arne Slot’s side could’ve needed a second goal, the one and only Mohamed Salah stepped up as he cut in on his left-hand side after picking up a pass from Dominik Szoboszlai and smashed his shot into the top far corner of the goal at the famous kop end putting the reds 2-0 up in the 75th minute.

Bologna substitute Samuel Iling Junior tried his luck at a consolation goal as a shot in the Liverpool area was blocked by Virgil Van Dijk who then fell to the 20-year-old from North London on the half volley but his effort went straight over the bar.

The full-time result finished 2-0 as Liverpool continued their bright start in all competitions under Arne Slot’s management.
