Liverpool face Southampton in the Premier League at Anfield this weekend. It is the 107th time that the sides have met and should be an exciting encounter. In our previous 106 games with Southampton we have claimed 51 wins, drawn 25 times and been beaten on 30 occasions by the Saints. Here is a look at my ???top 3′ LFC games against the Saints in previous fixtures:   Southampton 1-6 Liverpool 2nd December 2015   The Reds travelled to Southampton for the fifth round of the league cup and won in style despite resting key players during the game. It was Sadio Mane who put the hosts in the lead after just 39 seconds but a brilliant hat-trick by Divock Origi in addition of an outstanding performance from Daniel Sturridge blew Southampton away. Man of the Match, Daniel Sturridge shone putting in an excellent performance; he quickly turned the tie around with 2 goals in 4 minutes midway through the first half, at the 24th and 28th minute.  Origi deflected in Alberto Moreno’s strike achieving his first goal for the club on the stroke of half time. The Belgian’s second goal was sublime, a right footed strike, which went in off the underside of the bar. Substitute Jordan Ibe made it 5-1 with a fine finish before Origi completed his hat-trick with his header to complete the rout.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8r-mcdLYGc   Liverpool 5-0 Southampton 25th September 1982   In what turned out to be Bob Paisley’s final season managing the club, we hosted the Saints with an attendance of 32,996 . Ronnie Whelan open the scoring on his birthday as his deflected strike chipped Southampton goalkeeper Peter Shilton. A brilliant strike from Graeme Souness curled past the Southampton and England goalkeeper and doubled our lead. Mark Lawrenson avoided the offside trap and made it 3 nut-megging Shilton. The fourth goal was a good one with a wonderful move where Lawrenson, who started the move, was played through by King Kenny and slotted home from 15 yards. Liverpool completed the hammering as Souness played a lovely ball over the top to Johnstone, who rounded Shilton before crossing the ball into the box and finished by birthday boy Whelan. Liverpool could have had many more on the day,  Southampton had their goalkeeper to thank as he made two excellent double saves from Whelan and Rush. This has to go down as one of the Reds’ best performances against the Southerners.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X6GWn87qgU       Southampton 0-3 Liverpool 1st March 2014   In our push for the title during the 2013/14 campaign, we travelled to the South coast and produced a clinical performance. Luis Suarez put us ahead with a low finish past Artur Boruc in the Southampton goal. Suarez then beat Dejan Lovren before squaring the ball to Raheem Sterling whose first time finish made it 2-0.  Suarez played his 100th Premier League game for the club in this clash and it was him who was fouled by Jose Fonte in the area during stoppage time earning a penalty for LFC. The result: a spot-kick was scored by skipper Steven Gerrard completing a 3-0 victory for The Reds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwFmyypVsMw Let’s hope for a game similar to these 3 when the Saints visit Anfield today. Adam Lallana’s return from injury is a big boost for The Reds who now face the exciting prospect of Mane, Salah, Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana in our XI. Former LFC Centre-back, Mauricio Pellegrino’s Southampton side come to Anfield off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Home to Burnley prior to the international break.
