Yossi Benayoun signed for £5m in 2007 from West Ham. During his time at West Ham he put in a number of good performances and most notably a good performance in the 2006 FA Cup final, giving the LFC defence a number of problems. Enough problems to interest Rafa Benítez enough to want to sign the tricksy midfielder a year later. Yossi Benayoun had a good first year at the club, scoring 11 goals and making 47 appearances, however 21 of those came from the bench. This included hat tricks against Chelsea and against Besiktas. The game against Besiktas, which we won 8-0, still holds the record for the largest winning margin in any champions league game. Back in those days when we had squad depth, we could play a rotated side and still manage to break records. Mad. His role as an impact player continued through into his second season at the club as Liverpool made a title challenge. Scoring 9 times in 42 appearances for Liverpool. The performances in this season got Yossi rewarded with a new contract extension at the club, which was until 2013. This season also had the midfielder score a hat-trick in the FA Cup against Burnley, which made him the first player to have scored hat-tricks in the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup. An impressive 2009/10 campaign got him a move to Chelsea. Yossi came out and said that the reason for his departure was down to Rafa himself. Rafa Benitez has often been reported to have been pretty aloof during his time at Liverpool and this could be an example where that attitude may have rubbed a player the wrong way. Loan spells to Arsenal and back to West Ham followed as Yossi played out the later stages of his career in the Premier League.
